Excuses are overrated.
I’m not talking about the excuses that people make when they don’t want to do something, or when they’re trying to get out of trouble. I’m talking about the excuses we make for ourselves—because it’s easy.
It’s easy to say you’re going to go hard at the gym this week. It’s harder to put on your workout clothes and drive there, let alone actually do the work once you get there.
It’s easy to say you’ll write a book next year. It’s harder to actually sit down in front of your computer and write it.
It’s easy to say you’ll start your own company one day. It’s harder to talk to the people who might be able to help you get there, or save the money you need, or figure out how you’re going to balance your day job with your side hustle until it takes off.
It doesn’t have to be this way, though! If we can replace our excuses with action, we can stop making things so hard on ourselves!
Are you focused on your goals? Do you know what you want, and are you doing the work to get there? If so, are you still finding yourself sabotaging your progress in some way? How do you get past that?
Everyone has things that hold them back—excuses they tell themselves in order to avoid doing the work. But here’s the thing: unless you’re actually injured or unable to do something, those excuses are just lies. Lies we tell ourselves (and others) to avoid having to put in the hard work required to achieve our goals.
I’m not saying it’s easy. I’m saying it’s possible. And if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, then there is no reason why you can’t accomplish anything and everything that you want.
Set clear goals. Be honest about what’s getting in your way and stop letting it hold you back. Once you get rid of the excuses, you will see how fast things can move forward.
